Flexible Study Options
Choosing how to best structure study to meet your needs is made easier with our integrated and flexible options.
Each MGSM program breaks down into manageable components – a building block approach to study that provides a range of possibilities, from a Single Unit to the full MBA.
Successfully completing one unit or program sees you eligible to progress to the next point on the pathway and receive full credit for completed units.
Academic Year
To enable students to fast-track their studies, we offer an extended academic year, from early January to early December.
There are four 10-week terms, with one week of examinations, and a one-week break between each term.
Part-time students can begin their study program at the beginning of any of the four terms. Full-time students should ideally being in terms one or three.
Campus Locations
We have three campus location – two in Sydney (North Ryde and Sydney CBD) and a Hong Kong campus.
Full-time or Part-time
The MBA can be completed full-time in one year, or in two to three years of part-time study. All students complete 16 units.
Full-time
Full-time students based in Sydney complete core units during the day at the Macquarie University campus at Macquarie Park in North Ryde.
You will undertake elective units with part-time students, with the opportunity to interact and network with a wider range of your local peers. These units are available in a block or weekly format, enabling you to attend one face-to-face evening class each week per course unit – or to complete the face-to-face hours intensively over five days or two weekends in the 10-week term.
For information about our Hong Kong programs, visit MGSM in Hong Kong.
Part-time
Unlike many other business schools MGSM has one MBA program, which is applied to both full time and part time students. This means that as a part-time MBA student at MGSM, you receive the same exceptional education and accreditation as a full-time student.
Weekly or Block Classes
Study becomes easily manageable with the variety of lecture days, times and formats we offer.
You can select from weekly lectures or block classes. Course content, assignments and group work requirements are the same for both options.
You are required to attend one face-to-face class each week, per course unit, if you choose to attend weekly lectures. Part-time students find our weekly evening classes from 6.00PM to 10.00PM convenient, while full-time students attend morning classes held from 9.00AM to 1.00PM, Monday to Thursday.
If you have a varied weekly timetable, travel often or work unpredictable hours, you may benefit from block classes. The block classes enable you to complete the required face-to-face hours intensively over five days or two weekends over the ten week term.
A popular study option for part-time students taking two units per term is to enrol in one weekly class and one block unit (depending on timetable availability).
Attendance
MBA students must attend all classes for the duration of each unit. Special consideration may be given for a maximum of 20 per cent non-attendance in exceptional circumstances, such as:
- Unavoidable travel on behalf of your organisation
- Serious illness
- Injury to you or a close family member.

Learning in a classroom is one aspect, but building the confidence to actually put it into practice on multi-million dollar real case scenarios is what comes from an MGSM MBA. My Internship with Nuplex was just the right thing to happen to me at the right time. It helped me leverage a set of skills I developed as part of the MBA and also gave me the opportunity to work with some industry stalwarts. Indeed a great learning experience.
