Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Ranked among the world’s top 100 MBA programs (The Economist Which MBA 2012), an MGSM Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a learning experience that is both invigorating – and invaluable.
Providing a strategic business perspective and a complete grounding in the core elements of general management, this program extends, challenges and ultimately, transforms today’s management professional.
You will emerge a potential leader of the future, by focusing on the competitive advantages of enterprise and learning how to manage functional areas and the language they use (not their technical performance).
You can complete the MBA in one year of full-time study or two to three years part-time. Regardless of the structure you choose, the 16-course unit program is exactly the same.
The MBA Program comprises 16 course units, including ten foundation and six elective units.
Ten carefully selected foundation units ensure that you learn the skills required of an effective manager. The ten foundation units expose you to different general management perspectives, and give you the expertise required to see an organisation achieve and sustain competitive advantage. Foundation units include:
- Accounting for Management
- Marketing Management
- Organisational Behaviour
- Strategic Frameworks
- Information and Decision Analysis
- Economic Context of Management
- Financial Management
- Operations Management
- Foundations of Management Thought
- Strategic Management.
Six elective units are required to complete the program. With a wide variety of management subject areas available, you can tailor your program to focus on a particular management field of interest.
The MBA can be completed in one year of full-time study, or two to three years of part-time study, depending on timetable availability.
Each course unit involves 40 hours of face-to-face lectures, and an additional workload of up to 140 hours over the 10-week term. Students spend this time preparing for lectures, projects, presentations and exams, as well as completing individual and group assignments.
The MBA Program is available at our North Ryde, Sydney CBD and Hong Kong campuses.
For direct entry into the MGSM MBA, candidates must have an undergraduate degree and a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience (managerial or professional).
Alternatively, those with an undergraduate degree and a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience (managerial or professional), who have successfully completed either the Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and/or the Master of Management may articulate directly into the MBA program.
Those without an undergraduate degree, but who have a minimum of five years’ relevant work experience (managerial or professional), can enrol in either a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma and can progress to the MBA via the successful completion of each program level.
MBA students have the opportunity to develop valuable management skills through a 10-week (one MGSM term) project-based internship. This provides practical experience in an Australian organisation and real exposure to management issues and challenges.
Applications for internships are assessed on a competitive basis, including interviews with both the School and sponsoring organisation. You must have successfully completed a minimum of six units of your program to be eligible.

Commencing the Post Graduate Certificate with MGSM was not something I took lightly given other life commitments, however with effective time management the benefits of the course have far outweighed the commitment. The subjects have certainly been stimulating, thought provoking and challenging and the lecturers professional and engaging, so much so that I plan to continue study beyond this course.
