MGSM Reinforces Authenticity into the MBA Classroom

MGSM's New Enterprise Management MBA course unit reinforces authenticity to the MBA classroom.

MGSM's New Enterprise Management MBA course unit teaches our students specific techniques and skills relevant to the management of new enterprises, and an understanding of the factors that are important to the success of new ventures and the management options for increasing the success of new ventures. The unit addresses the questions; why will you succeed?, how can you increase your chances of success? and how will you manage success (or failure)?.

A key aspect of MGSM's teaching philosophy is to ensure that students are exposed not only to the academic content of each unit, but are also introduced to real (or realistic) business scenarios as part of their learning. This was recently demonstrated in the final stages of the New Enterprise Management course unit when MGSM faculty member, Graham Millett, introduced three venture capitalists to form a panel to assess business proposals that were presented by MGSM students.

Sean Cortis CA (Partner of Chapman Eastway) formed part of the panel and said; a highlight of the program is the opportunity for students to present their business plans to a group of seasoned industry professionals who will judge the presentations according to the harsh realities of the business world.  The constructive feedback that students then receive becomes invaluable in increasing their commercial experience and presentation skills.”

Additional panel member Stuart Anderson (Sydney Capital Partners) added; "the students collectively demonstrated an understanding of many of the key concepts required to establish a successful high growth business. Presentations were professional and to the point. Undoubtedly, many an entrepreneur will successfully emerge from the course".

New Enterprise Management MBA course The students who participated in the program were delighted to be given the opportunity to present their business proposals to a panel of such highly regarded experts, adding that this "hands on" approach in the classroom is what sets MGSM apart from other learning institutions. MGSM student Caroline Sharpen commented; "taking an idea from inception to a fully-fledged business model, and presenting it to a panel of finance industry experts, is an incredible ride. We gained enormous insight into what constitutes a fantastic idea versus a commercially viable, investor-ready project with high growth potential. The feedback from the panel and opportunity for further discussion over lunch was the icing on a particularly fine cake."
