MGSM supports the commuter revolution

On October 12, 2011 MGSM’s Head of Marketing Pete Richards and four full-time students, including: Matthew Graham, Clint McKellar, Florian Haeussler and Eric Jaschke took up  the challenge to ride to the MGSM campus in support of National Ride to Work Day.

The five riders sported MGSM cycling jerseys and travelled to the North Ryde campus from as far as Newport, Neutral Bay, Kirribilli and Riverview.

Upon arrival the riders were greeted by the Dean, Professor Robert Widing, and were able to enjoy a well deserved breakfast at the Macquarie University Ride to Uni Day event, hosted on campus.

An initiative of Bicycle Network Victoria, National Ride to Work Day supports the case for building better bike facilities in your community. Over one hundred and fifty thousand Australian's joined the commuter revolution and rode to work on the day.

MGSM student Matthew Graham said “It’s was a beautiful morning and this ride is a great opportunity to get outside stay fit and active  - and commute to uni at the same time.”

MGSM Head of Marketing Pete Richards added "initiatives like this are important to raise awareness of the benefits of riding to work. Obviously the environmental benefits are well known, but riding to work also improves your health and wellbeing and reduces congestion on the roads, which can be quite an issue around Macquarie Park and North Ryde."
