Research@MGSM Celebration 2011 for HDR Candidates and Supervisors
On the evening of October 18, 2011, MGSM’s research department and guests gathered for the second annual cocktail party for MGSM HDR Candidates and Supervisors to celebrate the achievements and recognise the progress of candidates, especially those who have completed their doctoral studies in 2011.
Recent MGSM HDR graduate Dr Sue O’Malley spoke of her doctoral journey with her thesis entitled ‘Funding issues of new and emerging medical technology in Australia’. Sue inspired those in attendance to persevere through the many challenges to successfully complete their research, especially in emerging areas of business research where MGSM is breaking new ground.
The evening was also in recognition of Dr Steven Segal’s nominations for the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in HDR Supervision and the MUPRA Supervisor of the Year Award. Dr Segal’s candidate’s nominated their supervisor due to the positive contribution he has made to their doctoral journey. Examples of this contribution include providing useful feedback, asking the right questions, creating a supportive and reflective environment through initiatives such as the popular Hermeneutic Circle, and encouraging them to ‘live the dream’ by taking on research they are passionate about and undertaking research activities they never thought possible.
In attendance was the MGSM Dean, Professor Rob Widing, MGSM Faculty, including Associate Dean Research Associate Professor Carmel Herington and HDR Director Dr Paul Nesbit and current supervisors. Guests also included past, current and potential HDR Scholars, MGSM Research Office staff and guest Tori Hocking and Executive Officer to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Jim Piper representing Macquarie University.
