Research Statement

In his doctoral research Andrew Heys has identified the presence of several different human resource management configurations in law firms and examined the impact of individual HR practices with the different bundles on organizational performance. There is an increasing tendency of professional firms to embrace the HR practices of their corporate clients without understanding of how such practices might affect them. His current work explores this gap and guides future people management practices in the professional services sector.

Contribution to Management Education

Andrew has written several chapters in a leading textbook on Human Resource Management along with being a contributor to the development of the teaching of negotiation to Australian managers. His negotiation course has utilized experiential learning through a full-day simulation and he has also initiated peer based feedback systems within the syllabus. Andrew has also championed MGSM’s Management Internship Program, successfully writing the course proposal to convert the Internship Program into its own formal unit within the MBA (MGSM 955). He has mentored course Supervisors within the program.

Contribution to Management Practice

Andrew has been an active voice on people management issues in Australian publications and in the print and broadcast media particularly in relation to negotiation and the management of conflict in the workplace. He has commented extensively at professional conferences and in the media on negotiation and conflict resolution and written in practitioner oriented periodicals and guides on HRM issues and people management.
