Research Statement
Professor Croucher’s research contributes to the application of quantitative methods to business and management, such as information and decision analysis or applied business techniques, while contributing to advances in quantitative research methods. It helps entrepreneurs, managers and employers to grasp the complexity of the practical application of mathematics and statistics to the real world and provides them with new tools and techniques to solve business problems.
Contribution to Management Education
John has been a major contributor to management education through his 20 books, 120 research papers and over 1000 newspaper articles. His teaching skills are exemplified by his six national and international awards for outstanding teaching. He was also awarded the university’s inaugural Community Outreach award, Excellence in Education award and Distinguished Alumni award. In recent years he designed and teaches in the new MBA program at the Divine Word University in PNG. As a result, he was awarded an honorary PhD for services to education and the country. John is committed to flexible learning approaches, setting up a Web-based learning tool to enhance the way in which challenging and controversial statistical material and evidence could be taught and understood.
Contribution to Management Practice
John is widely sought after as a consultant by business and industry where he provides his expertise to solve the problems of management. As part of these activities he constructs models that enable organisations to conduct their business more efficiently. His commitment to ethical leadership is evidenced in his integral role in the development of the Report on Equal Opportunity on behalf of the Totalisator Agency Board of NSW; being an invited member of the Vice-Chancellor’s group to be interviewed by St James Ethics Centre on ethical behaviour at Macquarie University; and in numerous interviews in the media on fraud, plagiarism and issues of academic dishonesty.
