Women in Leadership
The much discussed "war for talent" is a major issue for organisations today. Senior executives claim that attracting, developing and retaining talent is now critical to achieve organisational objectives.
Against this background, developing senior and high potential women managers to make the transition to more senior leadership positions makes good business sense.
MGSM's Women in Leadership program will assist women enhance their strategic thinking, leadership, commercial acumen and influencing skills. The program will combine academically rigorous models and frameworks with practical techniques to apply in the work place.
A blended learning style of presentations, case study discussions, group work and experiential activities will equip participants with a new set of skills. Just as importantly, participants will learn from other high calibre women participants and guest speakers as role models.
Strategy Development & Implementation
Developing and implementing strategy are critical leadership skills. This session covers strategy frameworks such as Porter's Five Forces, McKinsey 7S model and Values-based strategy. It also addresses the challenge of strategy execution, the importance of stakeholder engagement and strategy implementation techniques.
Leadership from a Female Perspective
Leadership is working through others. This session covers situational and values-based leadership models from a female perspective. Topics addressed include the manager as coach, managing difficult conversations, understanding your organisation's DNA and building your talent pipeline.
Finance Management
Many have described finance as the language of business. This session covers financial management concepts and practices required for senior executives, the role of finance, investment evaluation, net present value and Internal Rate of Return, raising funds and gearing.
Communicate with Impact (NIDA)
The essence of effective leadership is the ability to inspire others. This session involves NIDA actors exploring voice projection, understanding how your gestures, movement and language are interpreted by others, creating presence and communicating with impact. Participants will tread the boards at NIDA's theatre in a highly experiential session.
Negotiation Skills for Women
Negotiation is a critical part of every senior female manager's day. This session potential pitfalls women may face in workplace negotiations. It then explores the traditional positional bargaining and the Harvard interest-based or "win-win" models. Experiential exercises will assist participants to apply key learnings.
Power and Influence
Senior female managers need to influence upwards, downwards, sideways and externally. This session explores organisational dynamics and how leaders utilise power through position, control of resources, expertise, charisma or personal loyalty. Topics covered include stakeholder management, influencing strategies and building networks.
Your Personal Journey
Advancing your career as a senior woman leader is typically both incredibly rewarding while also fraught with frustration. This session covers the personal aspects of this journey. Participants will gain deep insights from both feedback on their 360º behaviour-based survey and from engagement with others during the week. This session explores views on work-life balance. Participants will receive assistance in developing a Personal Action Plan and discuss implementation upon returning to the workplace.
The Women in Leadership program is designed for senior-level women seeking to advance their career. This program will suit women leaders wishing to enhance their strategic thinking, leadership, commercial acumen, negotiation and communication skills.

Babette Bensoussan
Your Program Director, Babette Bensoussan, is an impressive academic, presenter and facilitator. Babette teaches and consults in the areas of strategic planning, competitive intelligence and strategic marketing, and co-authored "Strategic and Competitive Analysis" and "Business and Competitive Analysis".
Melanie O'Connor
Melanie O'Connor is highly regarded for her expertise in strategy, talent management and aligning people initiatives with strategic imperatives. Melanie is the Managing Director of The Academy Network, a former corporate HR Executive, and recently received an MGSM Teaching Excellence award.
Dr Graham Godbee
Dr Graham Godbee is a leading teacher in strategy and financial management and a recognised consultant in the areas of finance and company turnaround. Graham is the Program Director for MGSM's Strategic Management Program and a respected executive education presenter.
Associate Professor Peter McGraw
Associate Professor Peter McGraw teaches negotiation and influencing strategies at MGSM, is the Macquarie University Director of Labour Management Studies Foundation which organises the annual Women, Management & Employment Relations Conference, and is an active researcher in employee relations.
Anna Booth
Anna Booth, a Senior Advisor with The Academy Network, has impressive credentials. Anna was the ACTU Vice President, a Board member of the Commonwealth Bank and the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympics, and teaches and consults on negotiation and mediation.
