Helen Lynch is a distinguished Banker and Company Director. She started work in 1959 at the age of 15 at the Bank of New South Wales, Charleville in outback Queensland. Her subsequent career saw Helen as a role model for women within Westpac and the banking industry.
Helen was the first female branch manager in Australia at Rockhampton in 1978 and a string of "firsts" followed culminating in her appointment to Westpac's Group Executive.
By 1997 Helen had added a directorship at Westpac to her then portfolio of Coles Myer Ltd, Southcorp Limited, and Chairman of OPSM Group Limited. From 1999 to 2004, she was Chairman of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She is currently a Director of Westpac Banking Corporation, Chairman of the Westpac Staff Superannuation Plan, Trustee of The Westpac Foundation, Deputy Chairman of Pacific Brands Limited, and an external adviser to each of Caliburn Partnership and Malleson Stephen Jaques.
In 1990 Helen was the QANTAS/Bulletin Businesswoman of the Year. In 1994 she was made a member of the Order of Australia for services to the Banking and Finance Industries. She was further awarded the Centenary Medal in 2004 for service to Australian society for business leadership.
In addition to her business activities Helen has always been committed to the community and has a long involvement with a number of arts and charitable organisations.
