MGSM students are highly motivated people undertaking a postgraduate program for self-development.
They understand that from self-development and personal growth flow opportunities for promotion and career change and that advancement ultimately comes down to how you choose to make best use of what you have learnt and your track record, not from a qualification alone.
MGSM's use of the Socratic method and the emphasis we place on working in groups ensures that your work experience becomes the learning experiences of the person sitting next to you in class, the syndicate groups with whom you will work closely, the rest of the class and vice-versa.
Maintenance of high entry standards ensures that students studying at MGSM are not only mature, but have substantial relevant work experience in a managerial and/or professional capacity.
This ensures that throughout their program, students are able to learn from the collective knowledge, perspectives and experience of their peers, as well as gain insights into the operating styles of other organisations, through their interaction with fellow students.
It is these high quality students that form a powerful and very useful network of resources and contacts, both while studying as a student and upon graduation as a member of the MGSM Alumni.
MGSM's Expectations of Students
We have certain expectations of our students. Equally, you will find that your fellow students will also have expectations of you.
MGSM adopts a holistic view. When you join us as a student you accept that you have become part of a greater learning community. MGSM is not a place of passive learning where students are spoon fed. We take education seriously and expect the same of our students.
As an MGSM student you will be obligated to be an active participant in the MGSM learning experience by:
- firmly committing yourself to participating in class;
- ensuring you adequately prepare for class;
- contributing to the learning of others and sharing your experiences;
- contributing equally to syndicate group work;
- providing feedback to faculty, your class and the School; providing opportunities for the building of business networks; and
- ensuring the continued success of the School itself.
