This research is being conducted by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) and jointly sponsored by the Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) and the Australian Business Foundation (The Foundation). The final report will be released by mid-2009.

Aims of the Study

  • Identify the composition of the businesses located in the 'Pacific Corridor'
  • Complete initial 'cluster mapping'
  • Understand the factors that have come into play in the development of this region
  • Identify the current state of clustering activities and linkages
  • Identify potential gaps in clustering development in this region
  • In depth analysis of two targeted industry sections:
    • Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) and
    • Bio-medical (Biotech, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Instruments/Devices)

The research will consist of roughly three stages:

Stage One

  • Cluster definition
  • Identify industries
  • Commence interviews 

Stage Two

  • Complete interviews
  • Design Survey 

Stage Three

  • On-line Survey
  • Analyse results
  • Report
